Matt Williams

Group CEO

As Group CEO, Matt leads AHN’s operations across Africa and is a member of the Board of Directors.

Matt has worked across 60+ countries globally, with prior executive roles at Pfizer, DaVita, and McKinsey & Co. At DaVita, Matt held a number of senior roles including CEO of DaVita Malaysia, Chief Strategy Officer of DaVita International, and Chief of Staff to DaVita’s Group Chairman and CEO. He’s passionate about building high-growth, sustainable businesses to expand access to care in emerging markets. Before moving to Kenya, he previously lived in the U.K., Malaysia, China, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.

Matt is an Endeavor Entrepreneur and an angel investor – including serving on the Board of Twende Sports and the Nairobi City Thunder. He’s a former U.S. Fulbright Fellow and holds a master’s degree from Columbia University, an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business, and a bachelor’s degree from Pitzer College.

Dr Lloyd Vincent

Chief Medical Officer & Co-Founder

Dr Lloyd Vincent co-founded Africa Healthcare Network in 2015 with the aim of improving access to care across Sub-Saharan Africa while lowering costs and maintaining international standards of quality. He previously served as Senior Consultant Nephrologist and Clinical Director of Dialysis Services at Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospitals and its satellite centres in Bangalore, India, and earlier as Associate Professor and Head of Nephrology at St John’s Medical College, Bangalore.

In 1999 he received an International Society of Nephrology Fellowship to train in cadaver kidney transplantation at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. He earned a Master’s degree in Medical Informatics from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2001, completed a clinical nephrology fellowship at the University of Toronto in 2006, and received the Marc Goldstein Clinician of the Year Award in 2005. In 2007 he completed a renal transplant fellowship at the University of Toronto’s Multiorgan Transplant Unit and was awarded a fellowship of the American Society of Transplantation. He later completed a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration at the University of Toronto in 2009.

Dr Vincent is an accredited Canadian Healthcare Executive and has also been involved with India’s National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers as an assessor. His clinical and research interests include renal transplantation, prevention of diabetic renal disease, chronic-care disease management, healthcare quality and the use of information technology and point-of-care devices for remote medical monitoring.

Dr Brian J.G. Pereira

Former Chairman & Co-Founder

Dr Brian J.G. Pereira is a veteran biopharmaceutical and healthcare executive with extensive experience financing and growing companies. He is President and CEO of Visterra Inc., an innovative biotechnology company in Waltham, Massachusetts, and an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences and the Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute.

His board and executive experience includes Visterra, NephroPlus, AMAG Pharmaceuticals and Tufts Medical Center. At AMAG, where he served as President and CEO until November 2011, he raised multiple financing rounds and built the clinical development, manufacturing, supply-chain and commercial infrastructure for the company’s iron therapy for anaemia. He had previously been President and CEO of the physician corporation at Tufts Medical Center and interim Chief Operating Officer of the medical centre.

Dr Pereira is a former President of the National Kidney Foundation in the United States and served on its board for ten years. He has held leadership and advisory roles in Harvard-MIT biomedical programmes and has a distinguished academic record in nephrology and transplantation, including more than 200 scientific publications and editorship of the textbook Chronic Kidney Disease, Dialysis and Transplantation. He received his MBBS from St John’s Medical College in Bangalore, his MD in Internal Medicine and DM in Nephrology from PGI Chandigarh, and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Shigeru Handa

Director, Asia Africa Investment and Consulting

Shigeru Handa has more than 20 years of business-development consulting experience spanning the private sector and international development. His work includes leading multinational management teams, including in fragile states, and advising on business and project formulation, financing and investment structures, and the management and monitoring of socio-economic infrastructure projects such as electricity and healthcare.

In Japan, he has supported companies in reshaping business portfolios and developing investment strategies, and has advised pharmaceutical companies on marketing and sales. His current work focuses on sourcing and evaluating innovative businesses and advising companies on business and partnership strategies for entering African and Middle Eastern markets.

His career includes roles at the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Boston Consulting Group in Japan, Natural Lawson and the United Nations Development Programme, where he spent a total of eight years in Jordan and Iraq. He holds a Bachelor of Law from Kyoto University and both a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Accounting from the University of Southern California.

Owen Hughes

CEO, XOMA Royalty

Owen Hughes is CEO of XOMA Royalty, a biotechnology royalty aggregator, and has also served as CEO of Sail Bio, a private biotechnology company focused on toxic proteinopathies. He previously co-founded and led Cullinan Oncology, a publicly traded oncology company, as CEO from September 2017 to October 2021. Before Cullinan, he was Chief Business Officer and Head of Corporate Development at Intarcia Therapeutics, where his responsibilities included financing, mergers and acquisitions, business development and operations.

Earlier in his career, Hughes spent 16 years on Wall Street. His roles included Director at Brookside Capital, an operating division of Bain Capital, where he managed public and private healthcare investments, and Senior Portfolio Manager at Pyramis Global Advisors, a Fidelity Investments company.

He has substantial public-company board experience, including service on the boards of Ikena Oncology and C4 Therapeutics, and prior directorships at Radius Health, Translate Bio and FS Development Corp. II. He holds a B.A. in History from Dartmouth College and brings a combination of operating, investment and governance experience across biotechnology and healthcare.

Carlos Mousinho

Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer, Carlos oversees AHN’s operations across all countries of operation. His remit includes biomedical engineering, procurement, construction, and operational optimization, ensuring AHN delivers consistent, high-quality care while scaling efficiently.

Carlos brings over 25 years of leadership experience in healthcare, franchising, and retail. Prior to joining AHN, he spent six years at DaVita, where he served as Senior Director in the Midwest and later as Vice President of Operations in Brazil. At DaVita, he integrated acquired operations, managed regional businesses contributing over 75% of DaVita’s results, developed hospital and clinic partnerships, and spearheaded integrated kidney care initiatives, including care transitions and kidney supportive care.

Earlier in his career, Carlos held senior leadership roles in retail and franchising, including COO and Director of Operations, where he built scalable management models, strengthened franchisee support systems, and drove operational excellence across diverse industries. He has led strategic planning, HR development, financial management, and supply chain optimization, implementing tools such as zero-based budgeting and central purchasing. Beyond corporate roles, Carlos mentors entrepreneurs through Endeavor, supporting small and medium enterprises with operational, HR, and financial guidance. He is also a visiting professor in Leadership and Coaching MBA programs at Kroton, training future business leaders.

Nyokabi Kiarie

Chief People Officer

As Chief People Officer, Nyokabi is responsible for delivery of strategic and innovative people solutions across all countries in which AHN operates.

Nyokabi has spent over 10 years working in HR for start-up/fast growth social enterprises, including M-KOPA Kenya where she held several roles including Head of Talent and Head of HR. Nyokabi has spent ~5 years working in fast growth healthcare companies.

Prior to joining AHN, Nyokabi gained broad experience working across the US and Kenya, taking on diverse roles in operations and finance. Her experience spans industries as varied as financial services and transport, giving her a broad perspective on how organizations work and thrive. Nyokabi holds an MBA from University of Michigan, as well as a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Mary Baldwin College.

Dr Tim Keys

Chief Strategy Officer

As CSO, Tim is responsible for various growth, operational efficiency and clinical initiatives across all countries of existing operation, as well as future expansion across Africa.

Tim has experience in healthcare both from a clinical and non-clinical perspective. Tim is a medical doctor, having worked across multiple specialities in public and private hospitals in Australia. He previously worked in consulting for Boston Consulting Group, with experience across healthcare, social impact, financial institutions and private equity projects. Tim previously co-founded and sold an ecommerce social enterprise, Borne Clothing, and donated a proportion of the profits to organisations that reduce the burden of mosquito borne diseases globally.

Dr Tim has a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine from the University of New England and University of Newcastle (Australia). During his studies, Tim spent time in large public hospitals in Norway and Tanzania and in remote and regional Australia.

Dr Yuri Oketch

Country Medical Director, AHN Kenya

Dr Yuri Oketch is a highly accomplished medical doctor with over a decade of extensive experience in leading and significantly improving healthcare operations across diverse public and private hospital settings.

Dr Yuri holds an impressive academic record, including a Master of Infectious Diseases Intelligence from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia, where he graduated with par excellence. He further distinguished himself by earning another Master of Health Leadership and Management, also from UNSW, graduating with par excellence and ranking among the top 2% of graduates. His foundational education includes a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB).

His distinguished career began at the Ministry of Health Kenya, where he served as a Medical Officer for two years. He then transitioned to The Nairobi Hospital, Kenya, dedicating five years as a Senior Medical Officer before ascending to the role of Doctors Team Lead. During his postgraduate studies in Australia, he concurrently gained international experience working part-time with Meditech Australia for two years.

Upon his return to Kenya, Dr Yuri took on the pivotal role of Medical Director and acting Director of Hospital Operations for the LCH – Kikuyu branch at LifeCare Group of Hospitals. He subsequently joined Africa Healthcare Network (AHN), where he currently serves as the Country Medical Director for Kenya. In this overarching role, he is responsible for clinical governance and has achieved notable successes over the past two years.

Dr Yuri is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). His commitment to safety and quality is further evidenced by his leadership roles as Chairperson of the Occupational Safety and Health Committee, and as chair of the Morbidity and Mortality Committee, Infection Prevention and Control Committee, Quality Steering Committee, and Ethics and Research Committees.

Driven by a profound passion for delivering quality and safe patient care, Dr Yuri’s ultimate desire is to leverage his extensive experience to advance the basic rights of health for all.

Dennis Lumula

Country Director – Kenya

As Country Director for AHN Kenya, Dennis is responsible for AHN’s operations across Kenya.

Dennis has over 20 years of insurance, healthcare and consulting experience across East Africa. Before joining AHN, Dennis spent eight years in management consultancy and held Executive roles at Resolution Insurance, AAR and The Sewili Group. At the Sewili Group Ltd, Dennis worked on projects across East Africa in a number of sectors, including in development (USAID), banking (Barclays Bank), manufacturing, and government.

Across these various roles, Dennis played a key role in entrepreneurship incubation, transformational leadership coaching, start-up support, organisational design, and team development. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree with honours in Education Science from Egerton University in Kenya, is an MBA candidate at Suffolk University in the UK, and is a certified Behavioural Analyst from The Confidant Group in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Dr David Mwaipaya

Country Director – Zambia

As Country Director for AHN Zambia, Dr David is responsible for AHN’s operations across Zambia.

Dr. David Mwaipaya is a medical doctor and healthcare executive with a decade of experience spanning clinical practice, community health leadership, and healthcare management. Since joining AHN, Dr. Mwaipaya has held key leadership roles in Tanzania, including Deputy Country Medical Director, Clinical Excellence Manager, and Regional Operations Manager. In these roles, he was instrumental in enhancing CKD patient care, strengthening biomedical oversight, and driving operational efficiency across multiple dialysis centers. Beyond AHN, he co-founded and served as Executive Director of the Community Health Auspices and Shield Organization (CoHASO), and has contributed to national and international health initiatives, including Tanzania’s COVID-19 vaccination program.

Dr. Mwaipaya holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD). With a passion for healthcare leadership and innovation, he has also championed initiatives in safe surgery, health systems strengthening, and entrepreneurship to foster sustainable healthcare delivery and improve patient outcomes across Africa.

Nikhil Pereira-Kamath

Chairman & Co-Founder

Nikhil Lawrence Pereira-Kamath co-founded Africa Healthcare Network in 2015 to expand access to high-quality care in Sub-Saharan Africa by raising awareness and reducing the cost of treatment while maintaining global quality standards. He has more than 20 years of experience in dialysis and previously ran Youth That Care, a not-for-profit organisation that helped establish dialysis centres in India and the first dialysis centre in Burundi.

He graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in Economics and a certificate in Finance. His early career included roles as a research analyst at Oxford Bioscience Partners, an analyst at Morgan Stanley and an associate at Berkshire Partners. He entered Harvard Business School as a member of the Class of 2016, receiving First Year Honors, before deferring his second year to launch AHN.

After nearly a decade building AHN across Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya, he returned to the United States and moved into biotechnology. He joined ProKidney, a late-stage biotech company developing an autologous cell therapy for chronic kidney disease, where he serves as Chief Business Officer with responsibility for corporate strategy, project management, strategic finance, business development and commercial-launch preparation.

Monica Musonda

Founder & CEO, Java Foods

Monica Musonda is a corporate lawyer turned entrepreneur and the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Java Foods, a Zambian food-processing company she established in 2012. Under her leadership, Java Foods has grown into a leading independent manufacturer in the Southern African region. Musonda is dual-qualified as an English solicitor and Zambian advocate and has more than 25 years of post-qualification experience. She began her legal career with the Attorney General of Zambia, moved into private practice with Clifford Chance in London and Edward Nathan in Johannesburg, where she rose to partner, and later served as Senior Counsel at the International Finance Corporation in Washington, DC. At the Dangote Group, she was General Counsel and Director of Corporate Affairs.

Her board roles have included Airtel Networks and Zambian Breweries, where she became the first woman to chair each board. She also sits on the Advisory Board of Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa, an African Development Bank initiative focused on bridging the financing gap facing women entrepreneurs. She is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and an Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellow. She holds an LL.B. from the University of Zambia and an LL.M. from the University of London, and has attended business and leadership programmes at Harvard Kennedy School of Governance, Oxford Said Business School and IMD Business School.

Gilmore Achenjang

Associate Investment Director, Africa50 Infrastructure Fund

Mr Achenjang has five years of financial sector experience. Prior to joining Africa50 in February 2019, he was an Analyst at Citi’s Power, Utilities and Alternative Energy group in New York, where he advised on M&A, leveraged buyouts, restructurings, and debt and equity financings.

Gilmore holds a BS degree from the University of Kentucky (summa cum laude).
